MKCA-USA celebrates Christmas 2022, with gift-giving, ethnic foods and music

The Mangalorean Konkan Christian Association, MKCA, held its 21st annual Christmas celebration at St. Hubert’s Church Hall at Hoffman Estates, Illinois, Dec. 3, 2022.

In Konkani language, Christmas is popularly called Nathal Fest, a festival celebrated by all the 2.5 billion Christians worldwide on December 25, a press release from MKCA said.

The Cultural program was initiated by the welcome note from the President of MKCA, Dr. Austin D’Souza Prabhu.

Dr. Prabhu urged the Christian community of Chicagoland to be actively involved and participate in cultural programs organized by MKCA and spread awareness about the organization.

He thanked members and guests for their staunch support and thanked the Parish Priest, Rev. Fr. Mike Scherschel to whom he presented a check for his generosity in providing the venue.  Father Scherschel, extended his warmest wishes to the attendees and blessed the ethnic Indian food.

The program was conducted by Steeven D’Souza who welcomed all the audience to enjoy the foods offered.

Following were the winners of the activities conducted:  Kids game – Marshmallow stuffing – Winner Ethan Mesquita.  Kids below 10 – decorating the Christmas Tree – Esther Mesquita and Shannon Sequeira.  Kids 10 – 18: Collecting Highest Candies – Solan D’Souza and Adults – Blowing Balloon: Florine Rodrigues and Primus D’Mello.  The members and children present sang Christmas Carols, under the leadership of Concy Mesquita and team of musicians.

The grand entry of Santa Claus (Austin Prabhu) thrilled the young children present.  Santa presented many gifts and lots of photos were taken by all.

Savio Pais, the secretary of MKCA, thanked the organizing committee and the audience for their participation in the program.

A sumptuous ethnic dinner was enjoyed by all.  Music was conducted by Queenie Mendonca as the DJ. Attendees enjoyed dancing to the tunes of Konkani, Hindi, Kannada and Spanish songs.
