Award-winning actor and producer Priyanka Chopra Jonas recently announced the launch of her newest venture, an Indian cuisine restaurant named Sona at 36 E 20th St New York, NY.

The eatery which is set to officially open on March 26, 2021 is co-owned by Priyanka and entrepreneurs Maneesh Goyal and David Rabin. Chef and culinary author Hari Nayak is the head chef at Sona.

“I’m thrilled to present to you SONA, a new restaurant in NYC that I poured my love for Indian food into. SONA is the very embodiment of timeless India and the flavours I grew up with. The kitchen is helmed by the incredible Chef @harinayak, a masterful talent, who has created the most delicious and innovative menu, taking you on a food journey through my amazing country. SONA is opening later this month, and I can’t wait to see you there!,” Priyanka said in a post earlier this month.

Goyal was born to Indian parents who immigrated to the United States and opened the first Indian restaurant in Dallas, Texas in 1975. He says he grew up wanting to open his own restaurant, and that his dream came true with the launch of Sona.

“Opening a restaurant is a team effort for sure,” Goyal says in a post. He calls Priyanka the creative force behind the new eatery.

Nayak who he is also a restaurateur and a culinary consultant based in New York City started his journey from the Culinary Institute of America and today, he is one of the most sought after Indian chefs.

“They say good things come to those who wait. It’s been a long wait, New York…and it’s going to be gold! I could not be more excited and proud as I look forward to welcome you all to @sonanewyork,” Nayak says in a post.

The restaurant was supposed to open in the summer of 2020 but the launch was postponed due to the coronavirus pandemic. The team performed a puja a few days ago at the restaurant to bless the launch.

The restaurant has also partnered with NYC based art agency Sunderlande to showcase art exclusively from India. Featuring both modern as well as contemporary artists, all pieces on view at SONA are available for private acquisition, according to the restaurant’s website.

Sona will currently only serve dinner from Tuesday through Saturday, 5-11pm ET. The restaurant also features Mimi’s which is its exquisite private dining room hosting 8 to 30 guests.
