Republican Ohio State Rep. Niraj Antani, was appointed vice-chairman of the Higher Education and Workforce Development Committee. Antani, who represents the 42nd state district, is the youngest elected legislator in the state at 25. He has made improving access to higher education and job creation the two main pillars of his agenda.

State Assembly Speaker Cliff Rosenberger made the announcement Jan. 12. The committee will have jurisdiction over legislation dealing with Ohio’s system of higher education and all workforce development issues in Ohio.

“Representative Antani has been involved in a variety of legislative issues dealing with higher education and workforce development since entering office, including increasing availability of automotive technician training, increasing capital funding for community colleges, and more,” a statement from Rosenberger’s office said.

The same day, Antani was named on Newsmax’s List of 30 most influential Republican under 30 in the USA.

This is Antani’s second year running being named to this list. Others on the list include Hope Hicks, press secretary for the Donald Trump presidential campaign, and Elliot Echols, a senior level staff member of the Republican National Committee. Newsmax is a conservative news media organization that reports through their online website, magazine and television channel.

“I sincerely appreciate Newsmax naming me to this honor,” Antani is quoted saying in a press release.

“I am fighting every day for young people across Ohio to ensure all Millennials can get an affordable education and a good paying job. We must fight today to ensure our generation’s success in the future.”

Antani is serving his second term in the Ohio House.
