Ohio’s only Indian American State Senator Niraj Antani, a Republican, announced January 3, 2024, he has raised $612,348 in 38 days, toward his campaign for the US Congress. Antani hopes to receive the endorsement of his candidacy at the Republican primary in Ohio which is scheduled to take place March 19.

The total announced includes Antani’s 4th quarter campaign finance filing from his announcement on November 14th through the end of the 4th quarter on December 31. This total includes no general election dollars nor self-funding, a press release from Antani’s office said.

“I am deeply grateful to my supporters. I have fought for the American Dream every day in the Ohio legislature, and I’ll do the same in Congress,” Sen. Antani said in a statement.

Congressman Brad Wenstrup of Ohio’s 2nd Congressional District announced his retirement on November 8, 2023, following which Antani announced his bid.

Ohio’s 2nd Congressional District spans 16 counties across about 150 miles in southern Ohio. The district’s partisan voter index leans significantly Republican, the press release said.

“This sum vaults Senator Antani into the top-tier of this race. We feel very confident we will outraise and outwork all of our opponents,” Campaign Manager Nathan VanVlymen, said.

Senator Antani was the first Member of the Ohio General Assembly to endorse President Trump for the 2024 election. If elected, he would become the first Indian American Republican Member of Congress in American history. There are currently 4 Indian American Democrats in the House.

Born and raised in southern Ohio, Sen. Antani is serving his first term in the Ohio Senate, having previously served three terms as State Representative in the Ohio House of Representatives. He has received numerous awards from organizations for veterans, community college, small businesses, and more. Sen. Antani is a graduate of The Ohio State University.
