Kerala Center in New York gets a library

Also present was New York Deputy Commissioner Dilip Chauhan from Mayor Eric Adams’ office. New York City Mayor Eric Adams sent a proclamation recognizing April 6, 2024, as Dr. Thomas Abraham Day. And Senator Thomas presented a Senate Proclamation honoring Abraham.

Several community leaders attended the event and dwelt upon the achievements of Dr. Abraham, a founder of the Global Organization of People of Indian Origin. He has also been engaged in projects relating to areas like education, culture and promoting India in the US. Dr. Abraham currently serves as the Chairman of Global Organization of People of Indian Origin (GOPIO) which he founded in 1989 and as Chairman of the Board of Directors of Indian American Kerala Center in New York and was a Co-Founder of the Center. Dr. Abraham also served as the Co-Chairman of the fund-raising campaign to institute a chair for Indian studies at Columbia University. Two other groups initiated by Dr. Abraham are National Indian American Association for Senior Citizens (NIAASC) and South Asian Council for Social Services (SACSS).

The Library is expected to be the new hub for Indian diaspora research and will include a collection of books and historical documents, according to The Kerala Center, reporter ANI.

Over the years, the Indian American Kerala Cultural and Civic Center (The Kerala Center) has become a focal point to coordinate activities and services to those hailing from Kerala.
