Savi is like an acronym for Savitri, in the legendary tale of Savitri and Satyavan, wherein Savitri, a princess, marries an exiled prince, Satyavan, who is prophesied to die early. She saves her husband from the god of death, Yama, by persuading the deity to restore his life.

Cut to today’s times. Savi, a film directed by Abhinay Deo, ad whizkid and filmmaker (24, Delhi Belly), is about a hausfrau and mother of that name (essayed her by Divyah Khosla Kumar), who decides to make her falsely implicated husband (played by Harshvardhan Rane) escape—from a British high security prison with 400 inmates, 75 armed guards and 60 surveillance cameras!

The action drama, which is set to release on May 31, is produced by Mukesh Bhatt for Vishesh Entertainment along with Bhushan Kumar and Krishan Kumar of T-Series Films.

A trailer launch was held for this thriller on May 21 and Abhinay Deo talked about how he gave his complete 100 percent to whatever work he chose to do—ad film, TV series or film. He stated that he himself personally believed that women are always stronger than men, and especially so those who are also working, as they do an excellent job of managing both home and work. This, he said, was because he had always watched his mother, the late legendary Marathi-Hindi actress and filmmaker, Seema Deo. Abhinay’s father was the equally legendary Marathi-Hindi actor and filmmaker, Ramesh Deo.

Mukesh Bhatt stated that it was Divyah’s sincerity when she came to ask him for the role that made him decide to give her the film, in which she has excelled in a completely different avatar from her earlier ventures as actress. He also sentimentally stated that this film featured his favourite person and singer KK’s last recorded song.

Anil Kapoor was the surprise packet in the film and Deo said that it was easy to sign him as the actor was close to him (after 24) and all the three producers. Asked how he had evolved in the 11 years since that series, Deo quipped that his energy had gone up, he looked exactly the same, and the same would happen if he worked with him 11 years after!

Divyah lauded the perfect arrangements in London for the cast and crew that made shooting and working a pleasure all through the 45-day schedule, even when temperatures were hovering around minus 6 degrees Celsius.
