Indo-American Lions Club holds blanket-donation drive

The Indo American Lions Club which has the motto, “WE SERVE” and carries out numerous charitable activities with other organizations, participated in the ‘Spread the Warmth- Blankets  Donation’ drive recently.

The club has carried out many projects for underprivileged under the leadership of President Shyam Gajwani, a Jan. 16, 2024, press release from the organization said.

During the frigid winter weather the IALC held “Spread the Warmth’ Project and distributed plush blankets on Wednesday January 10, 2023 at the Royale Restaurant during the monthly meeting.

Project Chair Sanju Sharma and co-Chair: Anchit Aery were mainly responsible for the implementation. They invited the representatives of various organizations to introduce themselves, after they were welcomed by President Gajwani.

The blankets were handed over to the Disabled American Veterans, All War Veterans homeless veterans, Social Services department of Nassau County, homeless shelters, Roosevelt Bible Church distribution center, and Martin Luther King Center of Long Island.

“This was very humbling experience for all the members present. It is really hard to imagine someone surviving the bitter frigid cold weather without a warm wrap or blanket,” organizers said in the press release.

Project chairs thanked the leadership of President Shyam Gajwani, Founder President Indu Gajwani, Senior Vice President Kanak Golia, Vice President Anju Sharma, Treasurer Vijay  Shah,  Co-chair Anchit Aery, Yogini Oza, BOD-Saurabh Sheth & Nimesh Shah, Shila Shah, Shyam Agarwal for their help.  Also, Vijay Kumar ‘Banjara’ (a non-member) was thanked for his help in loading the blankets.

In the second phase of this project, 350 more blankets will be distributed to Pamanock Queens Community Center, United Methodist Church, Town of Oyster Bay.
