On Sunday, July 2, 2023, the Indo-American Cultural Foundation of Central New Jersey (iacfnj.org), IACFNJ, hosted their summer picnic at Mercer County Park. More than 200 members of IACFNJ and the surrounding community attended the annual event, according to a press release.

Organizers deemed the event a “huge success” as it included numerous activities, food spreads, and entertainment.  A traditional Indian dinner was served along with a live gola ice station, and an array of different ice creams, a press release from IACFNJ said.

The event featured bingo, a raffle, and music played by DJ Darshan and DJ Musafir from Desi Experience LLC.  The event was reported to go on for over six hours.

According to Dr. Tushar Patel, president of IACFNJ, the yearly picnic is held to “embrace diversity” and “unite communities” in the Central Jersey area.  He attributed the event’s success to the hard work of the committee members.  Among those listed were IACFNJ’s Secretary Surabhi Agarwal, Joint Secretary Kirti Mehta, Joint Treasurer Dimple Patel, Youth Committee Chair Niyati Patel, Event Chair Naina Goel, and Committee member Ira Mehta.

Among the attendees was Ann Grover, the Councilwoman of South Brunswick.

In addition to the annual picnic, IACFNJ holds many cultural events, with the most popular being the Garba held at South Brunswick High School every Navratri. Three major events are scheduled for this year: India’s Independence Day celebration in August, Garba at South Brunswick High School in October, and Diwali in November.

The IACFNJ has been committed to organizing events, supporting humanitarian efforts, and celebrating educational achievements for over two decades, the press release said.
