The Inter National Institute of Fashion Design (INIFD) and London School of Trends (LST) showcased the collection “INDIAN FASHION TRUNK” in sustainable fabrics during the 8th Season of New York Fashion Week.

According to a press release from INIFD (nifd.net), using sustainable fabrics represents more than just a fashion trend; it is a movement that upholds cultural heritage, empowers local communities, and fosters sustainable livelihoods. “Our esteemed Prime Minister, Sh. Narendra Modi, has been at the forefront of promoting sustainability, first through the iconic “Khadi for Nation, Khadi for Fashion” initiative, and now by introducing a ground-breaking and eco-friendly project focused on creating sustainable fabric from our revered national flower, the lotus stem,” said INIFD.

The runway event of Sept. 9, 2023, featured an array of designs crafted from sustainable Indian fabrics, celebrating India’s eco-friendly textiles, blending traditional artistry and contemporary flair.

“I’m incredibly proud of all the young designers who encourage Sustainable Practices and have created something unique using eco-friendly Fabrics producing distinct stylish looks. It is a matter of pride that our young INIFD designers have captured the limelight at all prominent National and International Fashion Weeks,” Anil Khosla CEO INIFD is quoted saying in the press release.

The INIFD is 28 years old, and a futuristic vision, builds strategic collaborations, and has a commitment to research, innovation, and entrepreneurship, it said in the press release.

Its core mission, the organization says, is to nurture student designers who envision a progressive future while harnessing the timeless essence of India’s historical treasures.

It showcases creations at 3 official world-renowned Fashion Weeks – New York for the 8th Season, London for the 9th season, and Lakme Fashion Week in Mumbai for last 35 consecutive seasons.

According to organizers, the show was extremely well received at NYFW.
