Friends of Madhya Pradesh Holds 6th Annual Picnic

More than 300 people attended the 6th annual picnic of Friends of Madhya Pradesh New York and New Jersey (FMPNYNJ) Saturday, September 24th at Rosedale Park in Pennigton, New Jersey.

Like every year, authentic Madhya Pradesh (M.P.) food made on location, and cultural and traditional activities were the highlights of the fun and activity filled day. The day began with a breakfast of Indore’s traditional Poha, Jalebi and Garadu, and M.P.’s food delicacy Baafla personally served at lunch by volunteers, a press release from organizers said.

The entire day was marked as a Hindi language day. The gathering was divided into 6 groups named after tourism spots in M.P., including Mandu, Khajuraho, Maheshwar, Kanha, Bandhavgarh and Pachmari. Special all-day activities were planned by the volunteers for small children and seniors, including Antakshari, Cheetah Challenge Cricket, Little Master Chef, Tambola, and more.

The event was supported by M.P. Government Tourism Department which distributed gift bags to all. It was co-sponsored by the Pravasi Bharatiya Diwas to be held in Indore next year, the Indian Consulate in New York, M.P. Government’s Non Resident Indian Department, and other community and media organizations. M.P. Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan sent a special message to the organization through Twitter.

FMPNYNJ has been organizing annual picnics since 2015. Managed and operated by volunteers, the organization’s picnic has become a reunion for people from M.P. with people rediscovering and reconnecting with old friends and neighbors. Some of the volunteers who organized and managed the event were Jitendra Muchhal , Raj Bansal, Rajesh Mittal, Pankaj Gupta, Sandeep Jain, Ajit Jain, Sarvesh Jain, Rajiv Goyal, Anupam Sarwaikar, Amit Mishra, Shaman Jain, CS Vyas, Akhilesh Ladha, Ashish Vijayvargiya, Bhushan Gupta, Sanjay Modi, Anand Rai and Sarthak Pathak, and their families.
