The Asian and Pacific Islander American Vote, APIAVote, is looking for ‘Youth Ambassadors’ and Spring/Summer interns, providing an opportunity for Indian-American and other students to acquire experience in politics and government.

Youth Ambassadors

“Are you eager to build AAPI power on your campus and catalyze change in your community? Ready to mobilize your peers for the upcoming 2022 Midterm elections?” said APIAVote in a press release, adding that it is looking for  “passionate” AAPI collegiate students and student organizations to join its 2022 Youth Ambassador Program.

Those who end up being recruited as ‘Ambassadors’ will be key in coordinating volunteer and team recruitment, voter registration drives, get-out-the-vote programs on their campus.

They will also work toward educating their campus community on current AAPI topics, and building sustainable programming on campus.

APIAVote will support Ambassadors through regular webinars and training, online hangouts, one-on-one advising, development of materials, technical assistance, and operational funding, the organization said.

2022 Internship Program

For getting AAPIs out to vote in 2022, it urges students to join APIAVote as an intern for the spring/winter term (virtual and unpaid) or the summer term (hybrid and paid)!

“We are looking for undergraduate students or recent graduates who can demonstrate that they seek to gain hands-on experience in grassroots community development within a national organization,” APIAVote says.

The organization says the program strives to ‘encourage and cultivate young AAPI student leaders to explore a career in the public sector or the political arena,’ and will also ‘provide experience and training on organizing and implementing voter activities to increase the participation of AAPIs in the electoral process, as well as the opportunity to meet experts in the voting rights and voter engagement field.

Deadline for applications for the internship is Feb. 26, 2022. Contact Julie Wu at youngvoters@apiavote.org.
