Young Indian American pianists win first place in international competition

Ajay Nadiminti, 11, and Priya Nadiminti ,10, of Livingston, New Jersey, displayed their  remarkable talent, winning first place at the Crescendo Music Competition, to play at prestigious Carnegie Hall May 27, 2023.

The Crescendo Music Competition is widely regarded as one of the largest competitions in the US and began in 2007.

More than 5,000 participants vied for the opportunity to perform at Carnegie Hall, and Ajay and Priya rose to the top, winning the opportunity to display their exceptional performance in a duet.

The siblings have been playing and performing since age 4, parents informed Desi Talk, showcasing their passion for music through daily practice and guidance from their teacher, Rebecca Eng.

Ajay attends the Peck School in New Jersey, and Priya is a student at the Pingry School. Both schools have fostered an environment that encourages musical talents, the family said.

In addition to the piano, Ajay enjoys basketball and creative writing. Priya also plays the harp and viola, and loves gymnastics.

The parents said they are proud of the achievements of their children. Sheila Gupta Nadiminti is a cardiologist in New Jersey, and Hari is a dermatologist at Summit Health.
