The National Eagle Scout Association established the Glenn A. and Melinda W. Adams National Eagle Scout Service Project of the Year Award (ESSPY) to recognize valuable service of an exceptional nature by an Eagle Scout candidate to a religious institution, school, community, or other entity through completion of an Eagle Scout project. The award recognizes the Scout for his Eagle Scout leadership service project, which is part of the requirements for earning the Eagle Scout Award.

Vivaan Bendapudi from Troop 60 achieved the highest Eagle Rank in Boy Scouts on November 15, 2022. He constructed a Garden Arbor at the Monroe Township Community Garden, Middlesex County, New Jersey, based on his finding that pollinators like bees, ants, wasps, and beetles were diminishing at an alarming rate from his surrounding community.

He believed that a Garden Arbor, which supports the vertical growth of pollinator-attracting flowering plants such as honeysuckles, trumpet vines and clematis and similar such plants, could provide an area for pollinator insects to grow and develop.

As a beneficiary of Vivaan’s service project, Joel Greenberg, vice president of Monroe Township Community Garden, organized a dedication ceremony on November 5, 2022. Mayor Stephen Dalina and Council members of Monroe Township attended the event.
