Varun Dhawan graced the Dehati Disco title-track launch event held recently in Mumbai as a special gesture to its choreographer and leading man Ganesh Acharya.

Ganesh, who has choreographed more than 20 films directed by Varun’s father David Dhawan, recalled how Varun as a kid would always be fond of dancing, and has been very close to him since then. He would be dancing in the aisle even when the unit was traveling by buses in location like UK, USA and Canada, and there was never an instance where he would not pick up Ganesh’s phone within just a ring or two even after he became a big star. As it happens, Varun is acknowledged for his dancing skills and movies like ABCD 2 and Street Dancer.

Dehati Disco, showcases how a village fights orthodoxy to excel in dance, and a special form of dance—the dehati (rural) version of disco—is devised. Also present on the occasion was ace percussionist Drums Shivamani (as Sivamani calls himself now), who has composed the music, child artiste-protagonist Saksham Sharma, producers Ayyub Qureshi and Kamal Kishor Mishra and writer-director Manoj Sharma.

A Dehati Disco Muqabla (contest) for the audiences was declared on the occasion, and Ganesh, Saksham and Varun Dhawan presented the hook-step of the song on stage with Sivamani gamely dancing as well. Two songs from the film, launched by actor Govinda, Acharya’s most famous disciple, about a fortnight ago, have crossed 5 and 7 million views respectively, and the trailer has garnered 17 million views.

Directed by Manoj Sharma, the film is also produced by Gitesh Chandrakar, under the banners of Qureshi Productions Pvt. Ltd. and One Entertainment Film Productions. The movie releases May 27.
