Uttar Pradesh Gov. Anandiben Patel to headline AAPI Convention in Atlanta July 4th weekend

The Governor of Uttar Pradesh Anandiben Patel is the highlight speaker at the 39th Convention & Scientific Assembly of the American Association of Physicians of Indian Origin (AAPI) ongoing in Atlanta July 2-5, 2021. She will be addressing the assembly virtually.

As the head of the Uttar Pradesh, the largest state in India, and the former Chief Minister of Gujarat, Anandiben Patel represents one of India’s foremost political leaders and a champion of women and children’s rights.  As the 15th Chief Minister of Gujarat from May 2014 to August 2016, was one of the leaders in the implementation of the ‘Vibrant Gujarat’ initiative.

Her accomplishments during that tenure as listed on the Governor’s website include:

Expanding the reach of public sector banks to poor and women under the ‘Jan Dhan’ program; enabling the expansion of employment opportunities for youth and skill development to meet the needs of modern industry; showcasing Gujarat as a hub for global investors.

As Chief Minister she is also credited with launching a number of grassroots schemes such as ‘Maa Vatsalya’ the free healthcare scheme for poor and middle-class families; launching the ‘Yuva Swavalamban’ scheme to provide higher education to poor students; implementing the ‘Vidya Lakshmi Bond’ and the ‘Vidya Deep’ schemes; getting more than 100 town plans sanctioned quickly; starting free cancer tests for all women; using technology for process simplification in administration of the state; and enabling  construction of village roads with a massive infusion of capital.

Gov. Patel was a member of the Rajya Sabha from 1994 to 1998; elected to the Gujarat State Assembly in 1998 and re-elected numerous times to that office, holding and implementing many portfolios ranging from revenue, disaster management, to women and child welfare as well as land reform and urban development and housing.

Gov. Patel served as Governor of Chhattisgarh from August 2018 to July 2019, after which she took over as CM of Madhya Pradesh followed by Uttar Pradesh.
