South Asian American Labor group endorses Harpreet Toor for NY City Council

The Alliance of South Asian American Labor announced its endorsement of Harpreet Singh Toor for City Council May 29.

Toor is running for the New York State Democratic Party primary scheduled for June 22, 2021, from District 23 in Eastern Queens.

The event was held in front of the campaign headquarters of Toor on Hillside Ave. in Bellerose, Queens.

Maf Uddin, the president of ASAAL, praised Toor’s record.

“Harpreet Singh Toor has a long history of supporting the working families of Queens,” Uddin is quoted saying in a press release, adding, “And he has pledged to forcefully address the economic crisis resulting from the Pandemic, to protect jobs and critical city services, and to grow our community.”

Toor said he was honored by the endorsement.

“Under the leadership of Maf Uddin ASAAL has demonstrated how an active, educated, and mobilized South Asian American community can become a strategic partner and supporter of elected officials, by pursuing the integrating of South Asian Americans with the labor movement and political system through involvement in the electoral process,” Toor said.

“We are confident Toor has what it takes to win. That is why we are calling on our members and their families to work with us to elect Harpreet Singh Toor to City Council District 23, in Eastern Queens,” Uddin went on to say.

Uddin, who is also president of DC37 Local 1407, and treasurer, DC37, said that Local 1407 is also endorsing Toor’s candidacy.

District 23 includes the neighborhoods of Bayside Hills, Bellerose, Douglaston, Floral Park, Fresh Meadows, Glen Oaks, Hollis, Hollis Hills, Holliswood, Little Neck, New Hyde Park, Oakland Gardens and Queens Village.
