Punjabi Cultural Society of Chicago appoints 2024 board

Punjabi Cultural Society of Chicago (PCS) (www.PCSChicago.org) officials recently formed their working board for the year 2024. The non-profit community service organization aims to promote Punjabi Culture, language, and performing arts within the Punjabi community and also share it with the mainstream Americans.

In a recent PCS officials meeting Dr. Vikramjit Singh Gill, a well-known local physician, and a longtime community supporter, was selected as 2024 PCS chairman.

Dr. Gill, a psychiatrist, hails from the Malwa region of Punjab, a small village in Moga district. He grew up during the turbulent 70s and 80s in Punjab, a press release from PCS said. Dr. Gill did his elementary schooling in a Catholic school followed by middle schooling in an Arya-Samaji school and finally went to a Khalsa school.

After graduating from Government Medical College, Patiala Dr. Gill served 5 years in the rural health system. He has had a varied career, from being a successful beekeeper to a Mastiff breeder in Punjab.

Dr. Gill has been in the US since 2003. He is married to Preet Grewal and the couple has two children.

“I am honored to serve as the Chair of this wonderful organization called PCS. It is a time-tested organization. I am here to support it wherever I am needed,” Dr. Gill is quoted saying in the press release.

Manjeet Singh Bhalla was selected to be the PCS President for 2024. Bhalla has served on the PCS Board, in all positions for many years. His wife Mona Bhalla and daughters Manpreet, Simran and Kiran have participated in PCS activities as coordinators for several years. He Did his electrical engineering from Purdue University, is an ex Motorola electrical design engineering manager. He is currently a Director of Global Engineering, leading engineering functions at 6 sites around the world.

“We have a dedicated team of PCS officials working hard to produce PCS programs. Our next program Rangla Punjab 2024 is on April 20th, 2024 at Copernicus Center, 5216 W. Lawrence Ave., Chicago, Illinois, and many more to come,” Bhalla said.

The PCS board for the year 2024 as elected is:

President – Manjeet Singh Bhalla; Vice President – Navtej Singh Sohi; Executive Secretary – Parmjot Singh Parmar; Finance Director –  Gurlal Singh Bhattal; Bikram Singh Sohi – Asst. Executive Secretary; Sports & Technical Director – Gurpreet Singh Sidhu; Inter-Community Director – Jigerdeep Singh Dhillon; Special Projects Director – Tejveer Singh Soodan; Youth Director – Paramvir Kaur.

PCS’ flagship annual event “Rangla Punjab” to celebrate Vaisakhi festival, is on Saturday, April 20th, 2024, 6 PM at Copernicus Center, 5216 W. Lawrence Ave., Chicago, Illinois. Last date to register to participate is Feb. 18, 2024.

The organization is also promoting “Punjabi Ma Boli Month” activities.
