Netflix’s Thar with Anil Kapoor Film Company premieres on the streaming service May 6. The film blends suspense, mystery and thrill, set in the film noir world. Apart from his mainstream movies like Ram Lakhan, Beta, No Entry and Welcome, Anil Kapoor has always had a penchant for dark noir movies like My Wife’s Murder, Chocolate and AK Vs. AK.

Co-starring with Anil for the first time is son Harsh Varrdhan Kapoor. Written and directed by Raj Singh Chaudhary, Thar features Fatima Sana Shaikh and Satish Kaushik. The film follows Siddharth, an antique dealer, and his journey through a remote village in Rajasthan that has recently been rocked by a series of violent killings. As the local cop Surekha Singh investigates these killings, she crosses paths with Siddharth.

Produced by Anil Kapoor Film Company (AKFC), the film has dialogues by Raj Singh Chaudhary and Anurag Kashyap and music by Ajay Jayanthi. Anil Kapoor Film Company (AKFC), over a span of 15 years, has created a niche for itself for producing innovative content that disrupts the status quo, like the critically- acclaimed Gandhi, My Father or breezy rom-coms like the Sonam Kapoor movies Khoobsurat and Veere Di Wedding. Besides these, AK Film Company has made acclaimed television series like the Indian adaptation of 24 and also Aravind Adiga’s Selection Day for Netflix.

Anil has also co-starred with daughter Sonam Kapoor in Ek Ladki Ko Dekha To Aisa Laga and she has had a cameo in AK Vs. AK, besides producing her films mentioned above as well as Aisha, all with his other daughter Rhea Kapoor.

Here is a father who has no qualms about working extensively with his family, unmindful of the fact that such collaborations, when flippant or frivolous, could be labeled as gimmicks.
