MySangi, which loosely translated means Let Us Walk Together, a not for profit New Jersey organization, held its 3rd virtual meeting via videoconference July 26, 2020.
Established in 2016, MySangi is focused on creating a support system (excluding match-making) to enhance socialization for those above 50-year old and single, primarily from the Indian-American community.
The focus of the 3rd event was – to connect members; help take their minds off the current Covid-19 environment; and to have some virtual fun.
Rajul Shah, president and founder of MySangi, jumpstarted the meet-up welcoming all attendees, especially those joining in for the first time and participants from far away.
The event began with a prayer recited by Jayu Parikh. Ila Shah, secretary of the organization, started the game of Antakshari – where two groups competed to a few lines of a song, each team having to find a song beginning with the last letter of the one their opposing team sings.
Popular Bollywood songs, bhajans and some classics – old and new songs were sung during the game, providing a much-needed break to shift the focus from the current challenging Corona culture, the press release from MySangi said.
During a question-answer period, participants ‘mingled’ virtually. Participants suggested future meetings to include informative sessions on topics of interest to seniors by inviting guest speakers from the community who are renowned experts in their fields as well as updating on the latest information on development of Corona vaccine.
Prakash Shah, treasurer of MySangi said plans were afoot to include these items in future events. One on financial planning was part of an earlier session that was well received.
Participants were encouraged to e-mail topics of interest that they would like to get more information on. Jayshree Winters thanked all the participants.
The next meetings will be held on the 4th Sunday of every month at 11 am. The next meeting will fall on Aug. 23, and is open to all singles 50+.
