Moh Sharma of New York joins as key member of U.S. House Minority Leader team

Indian-American Moh Sharma has joined the team of U.S. House Minority Leader Hakeem S. Jeffries team on Capitol Hill starting Jan. 6, 2023, as Director of Member Services and Outreach & Policy Advisor at U.S. House of Representatives.

Sharma’s Linkedin profile shows she has risen on Capitol Hill up the ranks and has years of legislative experience. She has served in various capacities under different Democratic lawmaker at the House for the last 11 and a half years.

She is a honors graduate in Economics from the University of Connecticut where she also earned her Masters. She has an an M.S. in Global Affairs from New York University as well as a law degree from City University of New York School of Law.

Sharma started as a Legislative Fellow in 2011, and became a Legislative Aide in 2012.

The very next year, 2013, Sharma became a Policy Advisor, serving in that position for two and a half years before taking on the mantle of Senior Policy Advisor, an office she occupied for two years.

In 2017, she held bigger responsibilities serving not only as Senior Policy Advisor, but also as Director of Outreach and Membership Services, for two years. In 2019, she transitioned to Member Services and Outreach Advisor for 7 months then taking over as Director of Member Services and Outreach & Policy Advisor in August 2019. She held that position at the Committee on Small Business in under Ranking Member Nydia Velázquez, D-NY, until Rep. Jeffries was elected House Minority Leader this Jan. 6, 2023.

Prior to coming to Capitol Hill in 2011, Sharma served in various organizations and in non-profit organizations, as well as at South Asian Youth Action (SAYA), of New York, which serves youth from these communities.

A law graduate, Sharma has wide ranging experience from that of a temporary assistant clerk at the Connecticut Judicial Branch, to a legal intern at the Immigrant and Refugee Rights Clinic at City University of New York; as well as at the International Center for Transitional Justice; as an instructor at SAYA; and an intern at the United Nations and at Lawyers Without Borders, etc.
