Massive Navratri Event Held In Jersey City Over Two Weekends

Several Jersey City officials attended the outdoor Navratri celebrations held on two weekends Oct. 8-9 and Oct. 15-16, joining thousands of people who turned out to enjoy the festivities. The events were organized by the Asian Merchants Association and the Govinda Sanskar Center.

The outdoor Navratri celebrations in Jersey City held on two weekends Oct. 8-9 and Oct. 15 and 16, is being described by organizers as the “biggest” in the nation, coming as it does, after 2 years of restrictions during the Covid-19 pandemic.

Thousands of people showed up and enjoyed the festivities, many wearing colorful traditional Indian clothing.

Several Jersey City officials also joined the crowd in prayers and gave speeches, including Mayor Steven Fulop, Councilman Richard Boggiano from Ward C, and Amy DeGise, candidate for Councilwoman-at-Large for Jersey City.

The events were organized by executives of the Asian Merchants Association along with the Govinda Sanskar Center, and sponsored by among others, Bhavesh Patel, a businessman in Jersey City.

Raju Patel, president of Asian Merchants Association, Suresh Patel (Mukhia), co-founder of the garba dance function, Lalu Dhanani who was in charge of outreach, and Jagdish Patel, secretary of AMA, were among the main organizers.
