The feisty Mallika Sherawat has never lost her distinctiveness. We all know how she made her first real mark with Khwaish (2003) and its 17 on-screen kisses, went on to make an erotic impact with Murder (2004) and even make an international mark with The Myth opposite Jackie Chan and her home production Hisss.

Mallika was last seen in the 2021 film, RK/RKay, and the Hindi web series, Nakaab and also did regional films, the last being the delayed Pambattam in Tamil, which hit the screen this year.

Among her very few solo successes was Pyaar Ke Side/Effects produced by Pritish Nandy, and it was he who had signed her for The Royals, a web series with Ishaan Khatter and Bhumi Pednekar. The role was of Ishaan’s mother and Mallika had accepted it though she was in two minds about playing the actor’s mother. Apparently, she was told that her role was on the lines of Catherine O’Hara’s character of Moira Rose from the Canadian sitcom, Schitt’s Creek.

But it is now clear that Mallika will not do the film, citing “creative differences”. Mallika felt that the role did not have much substance and walked out of the film in February. The production company has chosen not to comment on her exit, and as yet we are not privy to who her replacement is in the project.
