India’s 77th Independence Day celebrated by AIA at Daley Plaza, Chicago

Chicago: The Association of Indians in America existing since 1967, organized the flag hoisting to celebrate 77th Independence Day of India. The event was attended by hundreds of people who enjoyed the beautiful flag hoisting and vibrant cultural activities.

The event started with the national anthem of India, and the US along with flag hoisting at the heart of city Daley Plaza, which was followed by the speeches from the dignitaries that included the Chief Guest, Maria Pappas (Cook County Treasurer), AIA President Lion Hina Trivedi, Chairman Salil Mishra, AIA national Vice President Santhosh Pandey, and Prem Mehrotra.  AIA president Hina Trivedi was presented with a proclamation from the office of Maria Pappas (Cook County Treasurer, IL) congratulating the entire Indian American community on India’s Independence Day. Stage was beautifully coordinated by the  anchoring of Nilabh Dubey and Shabana Rahman along with Santosh Pandey.

The AIA recognized Prem Mehrotra with Lifetime leadership award for his 30 years of service to this esteemed organization. He acknowledged the contribution of Dr Pandey for imparting the values of AIA in the next generation. President Lion Hina Trivedi gave message to community to keep supporting all round growth of kids and Women empowerment. She thanked the parents for teaching Indian Culture value and bringing the kids to perform for the auspicious event.  Kids of all age groups actively participated in the cultural program, performing at the patriotic songs, and were joined by their families and friends.

AIA is one of the oldest associations in the US promoting India’s culture and heritage since August 20, 1967.AIA is the grassroots national organization of Asian immigrants in US, fostered on the democratic principle of “One member One vote”. The association aims to bring the community together by fostering an all-inclusive environment for both Indian as well as non-Indian community members.

In her speech, President Hina Trivedi thanked everyone for joining the beautiful celebration and briefed on the activities of the association. Special appreciation was given to Om Dhingra, Trustee of AIA for proving food for the entire group. President thanked the Trustees and members Anil Sharma, Manohar Mishra, Ram Bhaskaran, Prem Mehrotra, Shaheen Sayeed , Maliha Afreen, Akshay Patel and Chairman Salil Mishra. She thanked our Media Partners for covering the event and promoting the cultural events.

President Trivedi expressed her sincere gratitude to the Executive working Team 2022-2023 for all the hard work in making the event successful.

After the event the group gathered for a reception arranged by President Lion Hina Trivedi and Maria Pappas’ office.
