India’s 74th Independence Day celebrated at Indian Embassy in Washington, D.C.

The 74th Independence Day of India was celebrated in Washington D.C. with a flag-hoisting ceremony on Aug. 15, 2020 at the India House.

Members of the Indian community joined the celebrations in large numbers virtually through digital platforms in view of local public health guidelines, a press release from the Embassy said.

India’s Ambassador Taranjit Singh Sandhu, unfurled the tricolor, which was followed by singing of the National Anthem.

Ambassador Sandhu addressed the guests, and the address to the nation by the President of India Ram Nath Kovind on the eve of Independence Day was played on a screen.

A cultural program followed where students of Gandharva School of Music, Richmond, sang patriotic songs.
