NEW DELHI – A delegation of Indian parliamentarians will visit the University of Chicago in the U.S. with the aim to fast track solutions for India’s diverse energy challenges, an official said on Friday.

“The visit is aimed at facilitating knowledge exchange between Indian legislators, university researchers, policymakers and opinion leaders in the U.S.,” said the statement released by the Energy Policy Institute at the University of Chicago (EPIC-India).

The delegation of MPs consists of Riti Pathak, Rakesh Singh and Sanjay Jaiswal of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP); Kalikesh N. Singh Deo and Prabhas Kumar Singh of the Biju Janata Dal (BJD); Vincent Pala of the Indian National Congress (INC); Vandana Chavan of the Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) and Vivek Gupta of the All India Trinamool Congress.

They will be in the U.S. from October 28 to November 3.

The parliamentarians will attend round tables on regulatory and policy solutions to environmental issues and meet researchers who have studied India’s energy challenges.

They will also travel to Washington to meet specialists at the White House and the Environmental Protection Agency.

“Exchange programmes like these are great moments of learning,” said Sanjay Jaiswal, BJP MP from West Champaran in Bihar.

“I am glad that our delegation represents different political parties across diverse geographies.”

“I hope we come back with some exciting, innovative and replicable practices so as to contribute towards India’s suitable development goals,” he added.
