Indian Minister of State for External Affairs visits U.S.

India’s Minister of State for External Affairs and Parliamentary Affairs, V. Muraleedharan, is on an official visit to the United States of America from May 18-24, 2022.

As part of outreach to the Indian diaspora, he visited the Guru Nanak Darbar of Long Island in Hicksville on May 21, 2022. At the Gurdwara, the Minister sought blessings and highlighted the remarkable contributions of the Sikh community in India’s nation building. He urged the community members present to participate in celebrations of ‘Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav’, 75 years of India’s independence.

In his remarks, Minister Muraleedharan also touched upon Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s strong outreach to the Sikh community including the recent celebrations of 400th Prakash Purab of Guru Teg Bahadur at the historic Red Fort in New Delhi and his hosting a delegation of more than 100 Sikhs from around the world at his official residence a few days ago.

The Sikh community in Long Island, “deeply appreciated Hon’ble Minister’s visit to the Gurdwara and thanked him for enquiring about their wellbeing,” a press release from the Indian Consulate in New York said.

The Minister also met with a large number of community representatives at a function in Woodbury, New York.

Previously, on May 20, 2022, the Minister interacted with around 200 members of the Indian-American community in Long Island, New York. He shared the Government of India’s resolve to further deepen the connect with the diaspora in the 75th year of its independence. He called upon them to join the Consulate in celebrating Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav highlighting India’s diversity, art, sporting achievements, innovation and much more.

During the event, the Minister also launched the Mobile App of the Consulate General of India in New York. the Mobile App brings all the Consulate’s services on a smart phone, which the government described as “Another people-centric initiative of the Consulate.”
