The Indian Consulate in New York hosted a program to celebrate the language and culture of Rajasthan February 21, 2022. It was organized jointly with Jaipur Foot USA as part of the Azadi ka Amrit Mahotsav celebrations.

The program, entitled, “Rajasthani Language and Culture” was celebrated in the spirit of Ek Bharat Shreshtha Bharat, and is part of a series on Indian languages and cultures.

The event began with video of a Rajasthani song sung by Bharat Ratna Lata Mangeshkar, the legendary Bollywood playback singer who passed away recently.

Consul General Randhir Jaiswal welcomed the gathering and conveyed wishes on the occasion of the International Mother Language Day.

Speaking on the occasion, Prem Bhandari of Jaipur Foot USA, recalled the richness of Rajasthani language and culture.

Later, members of the diaspora recited poems and sang songs in Rajasthani.

A traditional Ghoomar dance was also performed.

Video messages of authors and poets in Rajasthani language were played.  They spoke about the richness of Rajasthani language and how it preserves the unique culture of the region.

The event witnessed participation from not only the diaspora from Rajasthan, but members of the Indian-American community from other parts of India as well, a press release from the Consulate said.

Since 2021, the Consulate has organized similar celebrations for Gujarati and Tamil languages.

Several such celebrations of various other languages and cultures of India are planned in the coming months under the rubric of Ek Bharat Shreshtha Bharat.
