Indian American named head of business department at University of Cincinnati

The Carl H. Lindner College of Business at the University of Cincinnati, Ohio, announced July 14, 2023, it has appointed Sachin Modi, PhD, as the new head of its department of operations, business analytics, and information systems (OBAIS). He will also serve as a professor within OBAIS, the uc.edu/news website said.

Modi was a professor and the John F. Connelly Endowed Chair in Management at Villanova University, Pennsylvania, prior to the UC appointment.

“I’m a Bearcat, so being back at UC feels like home. I feel very fortunate to have the position and to lead the faculty. They are truly, truly, truly stars,” Modi is quoted saying in the news report.

“I’m also drawn to the co-op model and how the OBAIS faculty are student-centric. They are excellent at research and delivering a really great curriculum to students,” he added.

On his LinkedIn site, Modi said, “I’m happy to share that I’m starting a new position as Professor & Department Head of Operations, Business Analytics & Information Systems Dept. at University of Cincinnati Carl H. Lindner College of Business! I am honored to be part of such an accomplished group of scholars and educators who are engaged in cutting edge research and deliver a strong applied curriculum focused experiential learning.”

A graduate of Maharashtra Institute of Technology where he earned a Bachelor of Engineering degree in Mechanical Engineering, Modi went on to get his Master of Science in industrial engineering from University of Cincinnati. He has a doctorate in operations management and decision science from Indiana University, Bloomington, Indiana.

Modi is an expert in the study of supply chains, and how they can be sustainable financially and environmentally, according to UC News.

He has published extensively in top journals such as, Journal of Business Ethics; Journal of Marketing; Journal of Operations Management; Production and Operations Management; Journal of Supply Chain Management; and Journal of the Academy of Marketing Science, the press release said.

He is the co-editor at the Journal of Operations Management and associate editor at the International Journal of Operations and Production Management.
