Hyderabadi community in Chicagoland mourns death of Hashim Unnisa Begum

The Hyderabadi community in Chicagoland is mourning the sudden demise of a highly respected member of their community in India.

Hashim Unnisa Begum who is the mother of prominent community activist Iftekhar Shareef, passed away Nov. 2, 2020, in her sleep in the early hours of the morning. She had no known medical condition.

She leaves behind two sons, Iftekhar Shareef and Mohammed Ashfaq Shareef, and five daughters, all living within a five-mile radius in and around Lincolnwood, Illinois.

Hashim Unnisa Begum also left behind 19 grandchildren and 18 great- grandchildren.

Born in Hyderabad, India, in 1935, Hashim Unnisa Begum was married at the early age of 15 to Mohammed Iqbal Ahmed Shareef of Shamshabad, Hyderabad, India who retired from South Central Railways in 1987 as superintendent at Nampally Railway Station, Hyderabad.
