HSBC CEO and Chairman of the Board, Michael Roberts, hosted Diwali celebrations in the company’s New York City office. At the celebration, Keyur Shah, co-founder of Leap to Shine, a well-regarded non-profit, along with Roberts, Indian Deputy Consul General Dr. Varun Jeph, and NYC Deputy Commissioner Dilip Chauhan, lit the ceremonial lamp.

Dr. Jeph spoke about the future of India following the 75th anniversary of independence last year.

“The next 25 years are going to be Amritkal, and India is well positioned to be a world leader,” he said. Dr. Jeph also acknowledged the longstanding strong bond between HSBC and India.

Roberts thanked Dr. Jeph for emphasizing the strategic importance of India to HSBC. “India is an important country for us, a country that will continue to grow, and it represents the importance of India to the world,” he said. Roberts also praised Leap to Shine’s Shah for his philanthropic work during a critical time for India.

NYC Deputy Commissioner Chauhan expressed enthusiasm that Diwali will be a school holiday for New York City public schools, adding an extra layer of significance to the celebration.

The evening included cultural dances led by Jaspreet Kaur.
