Gandhian Society celebrates Gandhi Jayanti in New Jersey

On Oct 1, 2023, the non-profit Gandhian Society of New Jersey, celebrated Gandhi Jayanti which falls on Oct. 2, with a unique musical theme of devotional music and traditional Raas garbas with singer Varsha Joshi and her band of musicians.

The event was held at Bharat Seva Sangha, Kendall Park, NJ, a    spacious facility.

People of all generations attended this event which started with popular bhajans of Mahatma like Vaishnav Jana and Raghu Pati Raghav.

Committed volunteers decorated the venue with an idol of Gandhi and prominent senior followers of the Gandhian lifestyle were present from around the country.

Among them were Kamal Taori, 75, a Gandhian and retired Indian Administrative Service officer, former chief of the Khadi Commission, and a cow activist; Dr. Sriram Sonty, vice president of the Gandhi Memorial foundation Chicago; Isha Vyas, head of the Division of Folklife and Cultural Heritage at the Arts Institute of Middlesex County for last two decades.

The founder of Gandhian Society Bhadra Butala and his core team thanked attendees and VIPs. All the guests were served a vegetarian meal after the fun filled garbas and Raas dancing.
