Alia Bhatt and Sharvari Wagh will be the first female spies in Yash Raj Films’ (YRF) Spy Universe according to reports, to head a big-budget action entertainer. It is set to go on floors in the first half of 2024. Earlier, Katrina Kaif in the Tiger franchise and Deepika Padukone in Pathaan have been female espionage agents in YRF films.

Producer Aditya Chopra considers Sharvari a cut above the rest of this generation’s actresses and a star in the making. Alia Bhatt, of course, is the Reign Queen of stars today and is now also having a National Best Actress award in her bag for Gangubai Kathiawadi.

The YRF Spy Universe is among the biggest IPs of Hindi cinema today, with the biggest of the superstars coming on board for the franchise. This being the case, Sharvari’s addition shows how much potential is seen by YRF in her.

The universe can be said to have started in 2012 with Ek Tha Tiger (the top hit in that year), followed by Tiger Zinda Hai (biggest hit of 2017), War (the highest grosser in 2019) and Pathaan (with record business in 2023), all blockbusters. The male spies have been Salman Khan, Hrithik Roshan and Shah Rukh Khan.

Alia’s and Sharvari’s yet-untitled film is at present in the development and pre-production stage. Both Alia and Sharvari will undergo a rigorous three-month preparation regimen for their action sequences. This will include Mixed Martial Arts. They will start their prep after finishing their current commitments

The spy universe’s immediate offering is the third film in the Tiger franchise, featuring Salman Khan and Katrina Kaif again—Tiger 3 is slated to release this Diwali. The franchise is also set to expand with the War 2 (with Hrithik Roshan and NTR Jr.) and Tiger vs. Pathaan (with Salman Khan and Shah Rukh Khan).
