Edison mayoral hopeful Sam Joshi announces full council slate of diverse candidates

Edison Council Vice President and Mayoral candidate Sam Joshi has announced a full council slate that will be running alongside him in the June 8, 2021 Democratic primary election.

The slate is composed of three highly qualified candidates with a passion for honest, smart and progressive local government, said a press release from Joshi’s campaign. It includes Margot Harris, John Poyner and Dr. Nishith Patel.

“I am proud to announce a full slate of qualified, passionate, Edison residents that are ready to deliver honest local government to our municipality,” Mayoral candidate and current Council Vice President, Sam Joshi is quoted saying in the press release. “Together, we are a diverse slate that represents all of Edison, regardless of what part of town you are from or what your background is. With the support of our neighbors, we will continue to work tirelessly for the people of Edison.”

Joshi’s campaign provided a snapshot of each candidate on the slate:

— Margot Harris has spent over 40 years as a social worker and served on the Edison Board of Education from 2012-2015. Harris is also the former Vice Chair of the Edison Democratic Committee and has been a committeewoman since 2009.

— John Poyner is a married father that is raising his two daughters in Edison. Since 2017, Poyner has served on the Edison Environmental Commission and has organized/participated in beautification and cleanup efforts throughout the community.

— Dr. Nishith Patel has worked in pharmaceuticals since 2005, currently serving as a Pharmacy Manager for Walgreens. Dr. Patel got his start, working as an intern at the Edison Pathmark pharmacy and has done tremendous volunteer work for Monmouth Medical Center.
