Edison Mayor Sam Joshi part of welcoming delegation for Indian Prime Minister

The Mayor of Edison, New Jersey, Sam Joshi, was part of the welcoming delegation for the Prime Minister of India Narendra Modi who landed in New York, June 21, 2023, in time for International Day of Yoga, to begin his State Visit to the White House.

Mayor Joshi was invited by the Government of India to greet Prime Minister Modi as he arrived at John F. Kennedy International Airport on Tuesday.

“It’s an honor to be invited by President Biden and the Government of India to take part in this historic

occasion, and to represent Edison on the international stage,” said Mayor Joshi

At the invitation of the Biden administration, Mayor Joshi is also scheduled to attend a Welcome

Reception at the White House on Thursday, June 22, along with other leading Indian-American elected officials from around the country. The Mayor was also invited by US Senator Cory Booker and Congressman Frank Pallone to attend Prime Minister Modi’s address at the joint congressional session also taking place the same day.

The event will be Prime Minister Modi’s first official State Visit to the United States, but his second time addressing the US Congress.
