Dr. Ketki Shah receives prestigious Excellence in Health Care award from United Hospital Fund

The independent, nonprofit organization United Hospital Fund hosted the 2024 Tribute to Excellence in Health Care awards May 6, 2024, recognizing Quality Improvement Champions. Dr. Ketki Shah, chairman of department of Psychiatry at BronxCare Health System was one of the physicians who was honored.

The event was held at Cipriani 42nd Street to pay tribute to 67 quality improvement champions from across the New York metropolitan area in recognition of their personal leadership to improve quality of care, patient safety, and patient experience at their institutions.

More than 500 friends and supporters came to the event to celebrate.

The event also featured keynote remarks by President and CEO of The Commonwealth Fund, Dr. Joseph Betancourt.

Dr Shah is a renowned psychiatrist with added qualification in the fields of Addiction Psychiatry and Psychopharmacology. With her expertise and administrative experience, she has progressed to be the chairwoman of the department of Psychiatry at BronxCare Health System, where she oversees the work of about 100 doctors. The program cares for more than 10,000 patients.

Under her leadership, the hospital addressed mental health disparities and has made significant impact in reducing suicide through Zero Suicide initiative, and its Life Recovery Center combines inpatient, outpatient and residential treatment for substance use disorders.

Dr. Ketki Shah joined by her family including Amar Shah of Life Global, USA.

In the field of humanitarian work, she is associated with Share and Care Foundation for past 40 years where she has led various activities including healthcare, publications and women empowerment. She is chairwoman of women empowerment committee for the past 7 years empowering over 100,000 women. She has also led other humanitarian causes, particularly in India and USA.

Her work in both professional and humanitarian sectors has earned her various awards including Ellis Island Medal of Honor. She was also invited to speak at United Nations about women’s empowerment. She participated in The Global Women’s Peace Initiative, United Nations, Geneva, Switzerland, in 2002 along with other leading women of the world. She has appeared on national TV while doing Tsunami related disaster relief work. She has also received U.S. Congressional Record on November 20, 2006.

Dr. Shah received messages congratulating her from many friends, NGOs and family members including legendary film stars Asha Parekh and Shabana Azmi.
