It was only a matter of time before the iconic Disney name would feature Diwali, a festival which has been celebrated at the White House for many years, and has become a symbol of Indian-American culture with cities around the country demanding a public-school holiday for the day.

Disney Springs, Disney’s Animal Kingdom Theme Park, and EPCOT are scheduled to feature the sights and sounds of Diwali this October. Hosted by Jashn Productions, the first-ever Diwali Dance Fest at Walt Disney World® Resort October 26-29, “promises to be a magical event filled with vibrant colors, stunning costumes, and incredible performances by dancers from around North America,” Jashn said in a press release April 20, 2023. The Diwali Dance Fest will feature South Asian dance schools from across North America.

The festival will feature an official parade at Disney Springs, a dance showcase at Disney’s Animal Kingdom® Theme Park, and a VIP party at EPCOT, with venues subject to change, the press release said. “Dancers & their guests coming to the event will be able to experience the sights & sounds of Diwali as they have never seen before,” it added.

“We are thrilled to bring Diwali to Walt Disney World® Resort for the first time ever,” Jashn Productions Director, Jeanie Beri is quoted saying in the press release. “We want to share the joy and excitement of this important festival with the South Asian dance community. We hope that the Diwali Dance Fest will become an annual event at Walt Disney World® Resort, bringing people together to celebrate the rich cultural heritage of South Asia.”
