Community leaders hold virtual meeting with Sen. Chuck Schumer

Indian-American community leaders met virtually with Democratic Majority Leader Senator Chuck Schumer, D-NY, March 13, 2023. They discussed a variety of issues including Sen. Schumer’s recent visit to India with a Congressional delegation, and his meeting with Prime Minister Narendra Modi.

The Senator praised some of PM Modi’s initiatives, and according to the community leaders he also assured them he was working to end the backlog on skilled-worker visas, as well as reversing Medicare cuts. Sen. Schumer also said he believes skilled workers like doctors should be given Green Cards immediately rather than the J-1 and H-1 visas and that he will work on this, the press release from organizers said.

The leaders who organized the virtual meeting included Dr. Raj Bhayani, Mohinder Taneja, Sunil Modi, Dr. Sunil Mehra, and Govind Batheja. The meeting was moderated by Dr. Bhayani, Taneja, and Modi.

Attendees included N.Y. Assemblywoman Jenifer Rajkumar, India’s Consul General in New York Randhir Jaiswal, Parikh Worldwide Media Chairman Dr. Sudhir Parikh, Dr. Raj Narayan, Dr. Raj Jinna, Bobby Kalotee, Dr. Mihir Meghani, as well as 200 other individuals, according to a press release.
