Smita N. Shah named to board of Chicagoland’s economic development agency

Chicago-based SPAAN Tech, Inc. a global engineering and management company’s President and CEO Smita N. Shah was named to World Business Chicago’s Board of Directors, June 28, 2023.

World Business Chicago is the area’s public-private economic development agency, whose mission is to drive inclusive economic growth and promote Chicago as a leading hub for business.

Shah was named to the Board for her success running a woman-owned construction management and engineering firm, her work on key infrastructure projects across the Chicago area, and her civic contributions to the city and country, the press release said. Several other Indian Americans are on this Board of Directors (worldbusinesschicago.com/the-people/)

“It is an honor to join such a dedicated group of civic minded business leaders who are working tirelessly to ensure job growth and prosperity in all neighborhoods across Chicagoland,” Shah is quoted saying in the press release. “We are committed to building stronger communities here at SPAAN Tech, and I am grateful for this opportunity to utilize my experience to make a difference in the City we all call home.”

She joins the World Business Chicago Board of Directors shortly after being chosen to participate in 2023 Cohort of Leadership Greater Chicago’s Daniel Burnham Fellowship, which mobilizes senior executives to exert their combined influence to positively impact the region.

Shah is also Chairman of the Delhi Committee of Chicago Sister Cities International. She is also engaged in leadership roles in civic organizations including the Museum of Science and Industry, Ann & Robert H. Lurie Children’s Hospital, Chicago Plan Commission, Wilson Center National Cabinet and Global Advisory Council to name a few.

In 2022, she was named to the inaugural President’s Advisory Commission on Asian Americans, Native Hawaiians, and Pacific Islanders where she advocates for access, belonging and inclusion for the AANHPI community in the United States.
