Pathaan, releasing this week, is a part of Aditya Chopra’s ambitious spy universe and has Shah Rukh Khan, Deepika Padukone and John Abraham in the lead. The adrenaline-pumping film is set to release on January 25 in Hindi, Tamil and Telugu, and several cinemas, which shut down due to COVID-19, are reopening for Pathaan, given the unprecedented buzz and hype that the film is carrying! After the pandemic, YRF is doing their part as India’s biggest film studio to nurse the theatrical landscape back to pre-Covid levels.

This is the fourth film in the YRF Spy Universe after Ek Tha Tiger (2012), Tiger Zinda Hai (2017) and War (2019). Coming up is Tiger 3, in which Shah Rukh Khan’s character Pathaan has a cameo, as does Salman Khan’s Tiger in Pathaan.

Eight of the cinemas which are reopening with Pathaan are in Rajasthan, and include Kohinoor Cinema, Suratgarh; Gem Cinema, Jaipur; Geeta Talkies, Hindaun; Sangam Cinema, Khandela; Dreamlight Cinema, Sujangarh; Prakash Talkies, Nawalgarh and JRC Movie Palace, Fatehpur.

Jyoti Cinema in Indore, Carnival R Mall, Mumbai, Cinekamla at Ponda, Goa, Prabhat Talkies in Gondia, Maharashtra, Lajwanti Talkies in Bishrampur, Chhattisgarh, Prabhat Talkies at Bina, Madhya Pradesh, SGL Heritage Cinema, Almora, Uttarakhand and the remaining 11 in Uttar Pradesh.

These latter theatres are Gyan Cinema, Mahmudabad; Carnival TGIP Cinema, Noida; PDR Cinema, Varanasi; M Cinema, Bindki, Kavita Cinema, Loni; Rama Cinema, Jaunpur; Cineshine Cinema, Chhibramau; J.C. Palace Cinema, Badaun; Kapil Cinema, Mawana; Madhuvan Cinema, Dasna and Rajkaran Cinema, Allahabad.

Needless to say, most of those cinemas are single-screens, which suffered the maximum due to the slump on box-office in recent years, which worsened further due to the pandemic.

Says Shah Rukh Khan on Instagram, “As #Pathaan fights for India, you too can be a soldier for our film industry to fight piracy! Watch #Pathaan from 25th Jan worldwide ONLY in theatres & say NO to PIRACY! The power is in your hands. Notify us at reportpiracy@yashrajfilms.com”
