The Vishwa Hindu Parishad of America, VHPA, also referred to as the World Hindu Council of America, announced the launch of the Chicagoland chapter of Hindu Women’s Network Oct. 23, 2021, at Gaylord India Restaurant.

According to a press release from VHPA, a group of 40 Hindu women met to announce the launch. The meeting was addressed by an invited panel of three women who have achieved success in the fields of medicine, media and politics.

Dr. Panna Barai MD from Munster, Indiana was the Keynote speaker who spoke on the subject of Nari Shakti, encourageing women to take charge of their lives, as Hindus in America have been here for three to four generations, and there remain “many areas where women need support at home and in professional lives and keeping it balanced,” the press release quoted her saying. Dr. Barai has been associated with VHPA for more than 40 years.
Vandana Jhingan, a TV Asia correspondent, and US Media bureau chief for “Hindi Khabar” focused on the portrayal of Hindu women in media, about the influence of media on young Hindu females and what the community needed to be aware of, and about journalistic ethics.
