An estimated 200 Indian Americans gathered in Novi, Michigan, to denounce the brutal  terrorist attack that took place in Pahalgam, Kashmir, on April 22, which they said was backed by Pakistan. The attack, which claimed the lives of 28 innocent tourists, has drawn widespread condemnation across the global Indian diaspora.

Organized under the banner of “Unity Against Hate,” the protest brought together individuals across religious, linguistic, and regional lines — including Hindus, Muslims, Sikhs, Christians, and others — who demanded justice and call for an end to alleged cross-border terrorism which they noted continues to plague civilians in India.

Participants held placards reading “Stop Terrorism,” “Justice for Pahalgam Victims,” and “Terror Has No Religion,” while chanting slogans that echoed a collective commitment to peace and nonviolence. The gathering included local leaders, activists, professionals.

“This is not just an attack on tourists or one region of India — it is an attack on humanity,” said one community leader at the protest. “We are gathered here to say enough is enough. We stand united in grief, but also in strength.”

The event featured a solemn observance, including a two-minute silence held in memory of the victims. Many in attendance lit candles and laid flowers as a symbol of remembrance.

Meanwhile, similar demonstrations and vigils were held in other parts of the Indian diaspora. In Wellington, New Zealand, over 200 members of the Indian community and other supporters gathered at the premises of the Indian High Commission. The crowd stood in silence, mourning the loss of innocent lives and affirming their commitment to peace and justice.

The Pahalgam attack, which the Indian Government has said, was carried out by individuals with known affiliations to Pakistan-based terror groups, has sparked renewed calls for global action against state-sponsored terrorism. Protestors in Novi urged international bodies and human rights organizations to hold perpetrators accountable and ensure such atrocities do not recur.
