On April 17, NY State Assemblywoman Jenifer Rajkumar, Democratic candidate for New York City Public Advocate, released her first official campaign advertisement.

In the ad, Rajkumar appears with her signature red phone that is meant to symbolize her 24/7 accessibility to the public.

“Are you sick of politicians not answering the phone? That stops now,” she says in an attempt to contrast her approach allegedly to that of incumbent Jumaane Williams.

Rajkumar released the ad alongside a post on X, saying:

“Absent politicians. No-show jobs.
New Yorkers are done being ignored.

I’m running for Public Advocate to be your 24/7 watchdog—with the red phone always on. Say NO to politics as usual— and YES to leadership that answers your call.

Vote Jenifer Rajkumar.

“At a time when New Yorkers are struggling with affordability, public safety, and government dysfunction, they deserve a Public Advocate who shows up—not one who’s missing in action,” Rajkumar says. Known as the “Lady in Red,” Rajkumar has been traveling around the Big Apple to all five boroughs.

The ad will run on digital platforms citywide, including on X.com @JeniferRajkumar, a press release from her campaign said.

Rajkumar is the first Indian American woman ever elected to New York State office unseating an 11-year incumbent. The Stanford Law graduate was a civil rights attorney, and also served during Gov. Andrew Cuomo’s tenure as New York State’s Director of Immigration Affairs, before being elected to the State Assembly in Albany.
