The Washington, D.C.-based Society for Women’s Health Research, SWHR, honored Indian-American Sudip Parikh, chief executive officer of the American Academy for the Advancement of Science, AAAS, with its 2022 Health Education Visionary Award.

Parikh was recognized “for his work to advance women studying and working in science, technology, engineering and mathematics,” according to an April 29, 2022, press release from AAAS Office of Communications.

Parikh is also executive publisher of the Science family of journals.

“His leadership in support of women in STEM careers has laid the foundation for women to participate and lead in the industry, and his work has paved the way for others to evaluate their own commitment to building and advancing inclusive workforces for current and future generations,” the SWHR said in a statement quoted in the press release.

The Society for Women’s Health Research is a non-profit with the goal of promoting research on biological sex differences in disease and to improve women’s health, goals that it says have resulted in women’s inclusion in most major medical research studies.

Parikh said he was honored to receive the award in partnership with his team at AAAS. The AAAS has “an important role to play to create a more inclusive and equitable environment for women to thrive in the scientific enterprise and to drive scientific excellence,” Parikh said in a video statement in advance of the April 28 award ceremony.
