Indian-American Rajiv Gowda announced Feb. 22, 2022, his intent to secure the 2022 Democratic Party nomination for the 23rd NY State Senate District representing North and East Shores of Staten Island and portions of Southern Brooklyn (Coney Island, Sunset Park, Red Hook, Cobble Hill, Brooklyn Heights and Dumbo).

The Primary Election will be held on Tuesday, June 28, 2022, and early voting begins on June 18.

Gowda (Gowda4Senate.com) is the former 1st Vice President of Local 375, Civil Service Technical Guild, DC 37.

“I was humbled and grateful to receive nearly 5000 votes in the 2020 election amid the worst pandemic. I am confident the people in my district will support me and elect me as their next Senator,” Gowda is quoted saying in the press release.

“The residents of our community desire new leaders who will challenge the political establishment, root out corruption in Albany and give a new reformist Democratic voice to communities that have long been neglected in Staten Island and Brooklyn,” Gowda contended.

Gowda is a former delegate to both DC 37 and to the Central Labor Council (AFL-CIO), as well as life-member of the Alliance of South Asian American Labor (ASAAL).

According to the press release, Gowda worked for 20 years for the NYC Department of Design and Construction and as a engineer “who has seen what works and what doesn’t.”

He promised to make sure that the dollars allocated to New York State from the “Infrastructure Investment and Jobs Act” are “appropriately” spent.

“I have an eye for infrastructure and can perceive the problems that plague our city’s congested streets and neighborhoods,” he said.
