Overseas Friends of BJP hosts celebration on Modi’s victory in Gujarat

The Bharatiya Janata Party’s resounding victory in the recent Gujarat state elections in India, has its well-wishers celebrating around the United States, from coast to coast, with parties and gatherings extolling the virtues of Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Chief Minister Bhupendra Patel.

On Dec. 13, 2022, the Overseas Friends of BJP, OFBJP, hosted one such gathering at the Royal Ambassadors Banquets in Edison, New Jersey, attended by hundreds of admirers of the Indian Prime Minister and the party.

A lamp lighting ceremony was held to jumpstart the event. Leaders of the Indian-American community gave speeches and patriotic songs about India rang out in the jampacked hall, that had a festive quality. Attendees talked excitedly and impromptu shouts praising the victory and India rent the air.

Speakers dwelt on Gujarat’s economic development and credited it to the BJP’s leadership. They congratulated the voting population of Gujarat for bringing the BJP back to power for the 7th time, and for winning a thumping majority in the state assembly.

Krishna Reddy, president of OFBJP, speaking to ITV Gold, said “More than 400 people are attending the celebration.” Reddy said those present were discussing how the BJP achieved the victory, and the emphasis was on bringing about economic development in Gujarat and India as a whole. He credited Modi with the achievements.

Several leaders addressed the crowd and echoed each other’s sentiments about the BJP and its leadership.

“What a victory! What a victory!” exclaimed Dr. Sudhir Parikh, chairman of Parikh Worldwide Media/ITV Gold in his speech to the gathering. He enjoined the audience to give “3 cheers” to Modi, as well as the BJP workers and volunteers who had made the victory possible.

“The victory is a victory of development, vision and entrepreneurship,” which Dr. Parikh said was the story of Gujarat. The longer goal, he said, was to win 450 seats in the Indian parliament in 2024 general elections.

Amar Goswami, one of the attendees, told ITV Gold, the celebrations in Edison were not just for the victory of BJP, but also of the people of Gujarat, for development work done by successive Chief Ministers of that state.

Hemant Bhatt, founder and chairman of the Asian American Republican Coalition, told ITV Gold, the community was excited to celebrate BJP’s victory under Modi’s leadership. The overall message of the victory was that the BJP is the only alternative for the nation, Bhatt contended.
