Over 40 titles announced by Amazon Prime Video in India

Amazon Prime Video has big plans in India. Unveiling its biggest slate to date at its maiden Prime Video Presents India showcase event in Mumbai recently, they have announced over 40 new titles, in Hindi, Tamil and Telugu, across original series, original movies and co-productions, which it plans to launch or release over the next 24 months.

Here is the fare we can expect from the platform.

Scripted Original Series:

  1. Emmay Entertainment’s Adhura (Hindi): A supernatural thriller set in an elite boarding school directed by Gauravv Chawla and Ananya Banerjee and featuring Ishwak Singh and Rasika Dugal.
  2. Excel Media Key’s Bambai Meri Jaan (Hindi): In his quest to clean the mean streets of Mumbai from organized crime, an honest cop puts everything on the line. Featuring Kay Kay Menon and Kritika Kamra.
  3. Dharmatic Entertainment’s Call Me Bae (Hindi): Bae, a billionaire fashionista, is disowned by her ultra-rich family.
  4. Owlet Films’ Crash Course (Hindi): A fictional account of two warring coaching institutes directed by Vijay Maurya.
  5. Excel Media’s and Tiger Baby’s Dahaad (Hindi): A serial killer drama set in a small town directed by Reema Kagti and Ruchika Oberoi and featuring Sonakshi Sinha and Vijay Verma.
  6. Northstar Entertainment’s Dhootha (Telugu): In this supernatural horror, possessed inanimate objects wreak havoc on the lives of people who commit deadly sins. Directed by: Vikram K. Kumar and featuring Naga Chaitanya and Parvathy Thiruvothu.
  7. D2R Films’ Farzi (Hindi): A small-time artist working out of his grandfather’s printing press has designed the ultimate con job. Directed by Raj & DK and featuring Shahid Kapoor, Vijay Sethupathi, Raashi Khanna, Kay Kay Menon and Regina Cassandra.
  8. D2R Films’ Gulkanda Tales (Hindi): Directed by Rahi Anil Barve and featuring Kunal Khemu, Pankaj Tripathi and Patralekhaa.
  9. Hats Off Productions’ Happy Family Conditions Apply (Hindi): A light-hearted family comedy directed by Aatish Kapadia & Jamnadas Majethia (JD) Featuring Raj Babbar, Ratna Pathak Shah, Atul Kulkarni and Ayesha Jhulka.
  10. Abundantia Entertainment’s Hush Hush (Hindi): The lives of five women intersect in unexpected ways when an unforeseen event unravels the façade of their lives. Directed by Tanuja Chandra, Ashish Pandey & Kopal Naithani and featuring Juhi Chawla, Ayesha Jhulka and Soha Ali Khan.
  11. Rohit Shetty Picturez’ and Reliance Entertainment’s Indian Police Force (Hindi). An action thriller about a young Delhi Police officer directed by Rohit Shetty and Sushwanth Prakash and featuring Featuring Sidharth Malhotra, Shilpa Shetty, Vivek Oberoi and Isha Talwar.
  12. Maddock Films’ Jee Karda (Hindi) is a coming of age series Directed by Arunima Sharma, it features Tamannaah Bhatia and Suhail Nayyar
  13. Reliance Entertainment’s Jubilee (Hindi): Set in a newly-independent India, this is a period drama that unveils the stories and dreams that gave birth to the Hindi film industry. Directed by Vikramaditya Motwane, it features Prosenjit Chatterjee, Aditi Rao Hydari, Aparashakti Khurana and Wamiqa Gabbi.
  14. Tyler Durden’s and Kino Fist’s Modern Love Chennai (Tamil): The Chennai chapter of the widely-loved US original anthology series is directed by Bharathi Raaja, Balaji Sakthivel, Raju Murugan, Krishnakumar Ramakumar & Akshay Sundher and featuring Kishore and Ramya Nambeesan.
  15. SIC Productions’ Modern Love Hyderabad (Telugu): The Hyderabad chapter directed by Nagesh Kukunoor, Venkatesh Maha, Uday Gurrala and Devika Bahudanam and featuring Aadhi Pinisetty and Nithya Menen.
  16. Pritish Nandy Communications’ Modern Love Mumbai (Hindi): The Mumbai chapter directed by Shonali Bose, Hansal Mehta, Vishal Bhardwaj, Alankrita Shrivastava, Dhruv Sehgal & Nupur Asthana, it features Tanuja, Pratik Gandhi, Naseeruddin Shah and Fatima Sana Shaikh.
  17. QED Films’ PI Meena (Hindi): A young, troubled, female private investigator gets thrown into a world where she has to fathom the unfathomable and find her own self. Directed by Debaloy Bhattacharya, it features Tanya Maniktala and Jisshu Sengupta.
  18. Offroad Films Shehar – Lakhot (Hindi): A neo-noir series about a man who reluctantly returns to his hometown. Directed by Navdeep Singh, it features Priyanshu Painyuli and Shruthy Menon.
  19. Wallwatcher Films’ Suzhal – The Vortex (Tamil): An investigation into a simple missing person’s case unravels and rips the intricate social fabric of a small town. Directed by Bramma & Anucharan M., it features Aishwarya Rajesh and Kathir.
  20. Lion Tooth Studios’ Sweet Kaaram Coffee (Tamil): Braving the unknown, three generations of women from the same family set off on an epic road trip. Directed by Bejoy Nambiar, Krishna Marimuthu & Swathi Raghuraaman, it features Lakshmi, Madhoo and Santhy Balachandran.
  21. Studio Shakthi’s The Village (Tamil): India’s first show based on a graphic novel, it follows a family on a road trip that becomes the victim of a clan of mutants. Directed by Milind Rau and featuring Arya & Divya Pillai.
  22. Wallwatcher Films’ Vadhandhi: The Fable of Velonie (Tamil): A dramatic noir thriller about the murder of a beautiful young girl. Directed by Andrew Louis and featuring S.J. Suryah and Laila.

Unscripted Original Series:

  1. Wild Sheep Content’s & Brown Munde Inc.’s This is AP Dhillon: This is an all-access reality documentary based on A.P. Dhillon, the breakout star of the global Punjabi Hip-Hop scene.
  2. Vice Media’s Cinema…Marte Dum Tak (Hindi): A docu-series that explores the lives and times of four cult filmmakers from the world of camp-cinema, as they set out to make a film of their dreams.
  3. India Today Productions’ Dancing on the Grave (Hindi): This is a true crime investigative series that tells the story of the sensational crime with access to exclusive interviews and footage and even the perpetrator. Directed by Patrick Graham.
  4. Dharmatic Entertainment’s India Love Project (Hindi): This is a docu-series that shares the inspiring love stories of real people from across the country.

Returning Series:

  1. Abundantia Entertainment’s Breathe: Into the Shadows (Hindi): Directed by Mayank Sharma and featuring Abhishek Bachchan, Nithya Menen and Saiyami Kher.
  2. Only Much Louder’s Comicstaan (Hindi): Directed by Angshuman Ghosh.
  3. Pritish Nandy Communications’ Four More Shots Please! (Hindi): The four girls are coming back to live, love, blunder and discover what really makes them tick through friendship. Directed by Joyeeta Patpatia and featuring Sayani Gupta, Bani J, Kirti Kulhari and Maanvi Gagroo.
  4. Excel Media’s and Tiger Baby’s Made in Heaven (Hindi): The wedding planning team is back to plan weddings, face fresh challenges and chart the journey of their own lives. Directed by Zoya Akhtar, Nitya Mehra, Alankrita Shrivastava & Neeraj Ghaywan and featuring Arjun Mathur and Sobhita Dhulipala.
  5. Excel Media and Entertainment’s Mirzapur (Hindi): The rivalry between Kaleen Bhaiya and Guddu only grows more intense from here. Directed by Gurmmeet Singh & Anand Iyer and featuring Pankaj Tripathi, Ali Fazal and Shweta Tripathi Sharma.
  6. Emmay Entertainment’s Mumbai Diaries (Hindi): Directed by Nikkhil Advani and featuring Konkana Sen Sharma and Mohit Raina.
  7. Clean Slate Filmz’ Paatal Lok (Hindi): Hathi Ram faces grave mortal dangers in a new pursuit that takes him back to the netherworld.
  8. TVF’s Panchayat (Hindi): An engineering graduate working for a panchayat in a remote Indian village faces challenges. Directed by Deepak Kumar Mishra and featuring Jitendra Kumar, Raghubir Yadav and Neena Gupta.
  9. D2R Films’ The Family Man (Hindi): Srikant Tiwari sets off on another rollercoaster ride, trying to balance life as a common man and a top-secret agent and featuring Manoj Bajpayee and Nithya Menen.

Amazon Original Movies:

  1. Stone Bench’s Ammu (Telugu): In an attempt to get her abusive husband suspended from police duty, Ammu does the unthinkable. Directed by Charukesh Sekar and featuring Aishwarya Lekshmi, Naveen Chandra and Bobby Simha.
  2. Dharmatic Entertainment’s Aye Watan…Mere Watan (Hindi): Inspired by true events, it is the story of young girl who became uniquely instrumental to the India’s freedom fight and directed by Kannan Iyer.
  3. Leo Media Collective’s &Amritpal Singh Bindra’s Maja Maa (Hindi): A warm, funny story set in Vadodara about a loving mother who unwittingly becomes a hurdle to her son’s marriage plans and contests societal norms. Directed by Anand Tiwari and featuring Madhuri Dixit Nene, Gajraj Rao and Ritwik Bhowmik.

Special Collaboration:

  1. Manikarnika Films’ Tiku Weds Sheru (Hindi): A rollercoaster love story of two survivors, who in spite of overwhelming odds, have a great zest to live. Directed by Sai Kabir and featuring Nawazuddin Siddiqui and Avneet Kaur.

Co-Productions:

  1. Abundantia Entertainment’s Neeyat (Hindi): When guests start dropping dead at an exiled billionaire’s Ashish Kapoor’s birthday getaway, a detective must unravel devious motives. Directed by Anu Menon and featuring Vidya Balan and Ram Kapoor.
  2. Cape of Good Films’ and Abundantia Entertainment’s Ram Setu (Hindi): An atheist archaeologist-turned-believer must race against time to prove the true existence of the legendary Ram Setu before evil forces destroy the pillar of India’s heritage. Directed by Abhishek Sharma and featuring Akshay Kumar, Jacqueline Fernandes and Nushrratt Bharuccha.
