Nearly 1,000 Indian-Americans celebrate Navratri at festival hosted by Gandhi Samaj of Chicago

The Gandhi Samaj of Chicago celebrated its 35th Navratri Mahotsav (festival) at Maine East High School Sept. 28.

According to the President of GSC Hitesh Gandhi, more than 900 people attended the event which started with the three-clap Garba followed by  Dandiya Raas and ended with Sanedo, and Hinch, forms of Gujarati dances, that engaged many of those present.

Gandhi said the committee incharge of organizing the event had worked hard for the last two months, and that more people were attending the events organized by the GSC. The committee members included Dharmesh Gandhi, Tushar Modi, Jay Gandhi, Kalpana Gandhi, Meena Gajjar, Annie Gandhi, Dimple Gandhi, and Sandhya Gandhi

This year the event included a live orchestra composed of sa rega ma group members, including two versatile singers Nipa Shah and Rajesh Chalam.

The GSC is holding Diwali Celebration on Nov. 2, a Saturday, at Ashton Place Banquet.
