Mayor of Edison, NJ joins children for Read Across America initiative

The Mayor of Edison, NJ, Sam Joshi, visited numerous elementary schools in the city to join the children during the Read Across American initiative on last week.

Posting on Facebook about his engagement, Mayor Joshi, said, “Read and spoke to well over a thousand students in different elementary schools the past few days for Read Across America. As you can see, students participated in highly engaging conversations. We spoke about the lessons learned in every book and how those lessons related to their daily lives. I’m so proud of our students for being so brilliant! Our future is bright!”

Joshi, 32, became the youngest and first South Asian Mayor of Edison in 2022, one of the most multicultural and multi-ethnic cities in the country. Up for re-election this year, Joshi has promised to continue implementing several of his initiatives, including completion of the $10.8 million Youth Sports Complex & Training Facility.

At his State of the Township address in February, Joshi outlined his objectives during the 2nd term if elected, including finishing the Minnie B. Veal Center, and the Stelton Community Center.

“We will expand services for residents of all ages throughout various neighborhoods in Edison. Constituent services will reach more residents, and health programs, including addiction services, will expand. Youth educational services will be implemented,” Joshi is quoted saying in a MyCentralJersey news report.
