The Jain Society of Metropolitan Washington (JSMW) successfully raised substantial funds during its Patrika Lekhan event, held over the weekend of March 15-16, 2025. The funds will contribute towards the Pratishtha Mahotsav of JSMW’s new Jain Temple in Beltsville, Maryland. This milestone achievement reflects the unwavering commitment of the community, which consists of approximately 700 families, to the Jain principle of seva (selfless service) and the preservation of Jainism for future generations.

The temple, a meticulously crafted structure, houses intricately carved murtis (idols) of revered Tirthankars and dedicated meditative spaces designed for inner peace and reflection. The Pratishtha Mahotsav, the grand inauguration ceremony, is scheduled to take place from May 31 – June 1, 2025.

What makes this fundraising success extraordinary is the deep sense of sacrifice and unity among JSMW’s members. Vishal Mehta, President of JSMW, described the atmosphere at the event as electrifying. “We are a small community, but our unity and commitment to Jain principles drive us to achieve the impossible. This temple is not just a structure, it is a legacy of faith, culture, and compassion that will serve generations to come.”

Beyond its spiritual significance, the new temple will also serve as a center for education, ensuring that Jain teachings continue to flourish. Dr. Gita Shah, Chairperson of JSMW’s Board of Trustees, emphasized the importance of education in sustaining Jain philosophy. “With a dedicated Pathshala, we are ensuring that young Jains have a space to learn and carry forward the timeless teachings of Jain philosophy for generations to come.”

With this latest milestone, JSMW is now in the final phase of planning for the grand Pratishtha celebrations.
