Bhagyashree, who began work on TV with the Amol Palekar serial Kachchi Dhoop hit gold when she made her film debut with the blockbuster Maine Pyar Kiya in 1989. A year later, she married businessman Himalay Dassani, who even turned actor when she refused to do more films with other heroes, co-starring with her in Tyagi, Paayal and Qaid Mein Hai Bulbul in 1992. She also went on to do films down South and quite a lot of work on TV, even directing a serial, Studio Talk.

Today, the couple’s children have both entered the portals of entertainment. While son Abhimanyu Dassani has made his debut in the 2019 film Mard Ko Dard Nahin Hota, his sister Avantika Dassani is all set to make an entry into the industry with Rohan Sippy’s psychological thriller-drama series, Mithya. The makers of the show announced Avantika’s arrival in showbiz with the first poster, presenting the young starlet along with co-star Huma Qureshi. The show will stream on ZEE5.

Opting for an unconventional and experimental debut with a twisted tale of two female leads, Avantika promises a power-packed character in her first ever on-screen experience.  Sharing her excitement on her debut, she sheds light on it, saying, “It has been an absolute thrill to take on a challenging character and intriguing story for my very first endeavor. I am also immensely grateful to have worked with an incredibly talented and supportive cast and crew that have warmly welcomed a newbie like me.”

She adds, “Today OTT platforms are where audiences come looking for their most exciting  experiences and good stories and I am really glad to start my journey by being a part of this,” With Parambrata Chatterjee in a key role, Mithya is produced by Applause Entertainment.

Interestingly, Abhimanyu had assisted Rohan Sippy on Dum Maaro Dum (2011) and Nautanki Saala! (2013). And if Bhagyashree won the Best Debut award for Maine Pyar Kiya and Himalay for his debut film, let us see if Avantika picks up a trophy for her web debut.

Mother Bhagyashree, incidentally, belongs to a royal family of Maharashtra, whose father, Vijay Singh Patwardhan, was the first entrant to cinema from their clan—he had composed music for a few films, beginning as composer with Road to Sikkim (1969), as a director with Dimple (1975), playback singer with Partner (1982) and producer with Kabhi Ajnabi The (1985). The last film had introduced popular cricketer Sandeep Patil as an actor.
